Who are we?
The Kadena Gift Corner
Where the more you $pend… The more we Give!

The products of Asia you’ll love, the quality you expect, and the courtesy you deserve.

You can simply call me the Gift Corner, all my friends do! My shelves are filled with products from around the Pacific. Some of my favorites include cloisonné, globes, and furniture from Hong Kong; celadon and green and white from Thailand; baskets and home decor from the Philippines; and table runners and clothes from Vietnam. I also have Kokeshi Dolls from Japan. I have adorned myself with a large selection of jewelry.

I am so popular, many of my items sell out within a day — so it is very important to visit me often! We host Supreme Gems and Gold, which was awarded the distinction of the Best Selection of Jewelry in the Pacific for the year 2007!

I am the longest operating Gift Shop on island. I was started as a tiny store in the Officers’ Club in 1956. I experienced my first PCS (permanent change of station) in 1963 to my current location, next to the Arts and Crafts Center, across from the BX. Behind my main store, opposite the Teen Center Millennium, is a large white building. This is my ‘Around the Corner Annex.’ Here I keep larger items, such as furniture. The building I presently call home was financed with KOSC funds. That fact makes me very proud. Did you know that I have been known to do more than a million dollars of business in one year?

I bet you would like to know where all that money goes. Both American and Japanese causes benefit from the generosity of my Spouses’ Club. Large sums go to the Red Cross, scholarships and the Special Olympics. American children are served by donations to the DARE Program, Project Graduation, scouting and many others. Through the American Women’s Welfare Association (AWWA), the KOSC also gives to many Okinawan and other Ryukyu Island charities.

Who are the hard working people that keep me running? They are all KOSC member volunteers. Seven of them, the General Manager, the Merchandise Manager, the Operations Manager, the Bookkeeper, and three Sales Associates are paid employees. My other hard workers are all dedicated volunteers. Most volunteers visit one day a week, but any time you can come to work I would be thrilled to see you! Any KOSC member is eligible to be a volunteer. I reward my wonderful volunteers with fun, friendship, and bonus bucks — not to mention a first peek at all my merchandise!

You may visit me Tuesday from 10am – 5pm, Wednesday 10am – 2pm, Friday 10 am - 5 pm and Saturday from 10am – 4pm. You can call me at 633-3161 or visit my webpage www.koscgiftcorner.com

I look forward to seeing you soon!

Supreme Gems and Gold

March 2008
Kadena Internal ESOHCAMP Team would like to recognize Kadena Officers Spouses Club (KOSC) volunteers and General Manager Ms. Shawna Cabatu for their contribution and assertiveness in supporting the base environmental program.

The volunteers constantly assure recyclables are segregated a bagged. More importantly they make special effort to contact the Environmental Flight for advice or assistance on recycling and disposal of items. KOSC recycling of cardboard saved over $6500–$8000 annually in refuse disposal. Their initiatives and active participation also earn money (proceeds) for Kadena Quality Recycling Program over $1650 annually.

KOSC definitely deserves the award and recognition and their stewardship of the environment, a great base role model to follow!!

Thank you so much for the recognition and your patronage to the Kadena Gift Corner and Supreme Gems and Gold!
