... The BX and Commissary are now carrying detergents without optical brighteners. Optical brighteners (also known as Flourescent Brighteners) actually dye fabric to enhance the amount of light reflected to the eye, thereby changing the colors of ABUs and ACUs through night-vision devices which could make our active-duty members stand out at night and become targets for the enemy. A list of the new detergents is posted in the laundry aisle at both the BX and the Commissary. The list below (from the Army Study Guide) is outdated so you may just want to use the detergents listed at our facilities for now. |
